In anticipation of upcoming rain storms, the City of Pocatello is staging sandbags at four locations throughout the community. Pocatello and Chubbuck residents are welcome to go to the following locations:

• ISU Holt Arena – northeast side by Bonneville Park;

• Fire Station No.2 – 1539 North Hayes Avenue;

• Central Equipment – 2700 South 5th Avenue; and

• Pine Ridge Mall – 4155 Yellowstone Avenue.

City staff and volunteers are filling sandbags as quickly as they can. However, citizens are welcome to come to the sites and fill their own sandbags. Shovels will be provided, but citizens are welcome to bring their own shovels to speed up the process. Citizens are limited to 50 sandbags per visit to ensure fair distribution.

Once again officials are asking residents to stay away from standing water and flooded areas. During a rain event, citizens should remain at home, if possible, until roadways are passable.

The City of Pocatello’s Emergency Operation Center is ready to be activated should the need arise. If that happens, telephone numbers for non-life threatening emergencies will be turned on and publicized to all media outlets. For any life threatening emergency, always call 9-1-1.
