Authorities on Thursday released the name of a 46-year-old truck driver who was killed in a collision with a train near Rupert on Dec. 29.

Efrain Juarez-Ramirez, of Rupert, died at Portneuf Medical Center as the result of injuries he sustained after being ejected from a 2015 Freightliner semi that was struck by a Union Pacific freight train around 2:42 p.m. near the intersection of Yale Road and East Minidoka Road, authorities said.

Juarez-Ramirez was the driver of the semi and a 48-year-old woman was riding as a passenger when both were ejected as a result of the collision. Neither was wearing a seat belt.

Both victims were transported via emergency helicopters to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello where Juarez-Ramirez died from his injuries.

No updates on the woman’s condition have been released.

The Minidoka County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by North Side and East End firefighters, two ambulances from Minidoka Memorial Hospital, Life Flight and Classic Air helicopters and Idaho State Police.

The Minidoka County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind motorists to be especially cautious near railroad crossings.

This crash remains under investigation by the Minidoka County Sheriff’s Office.
