Poky tops Burley
Bill Schaefer/Idaho State Journal Pocatello High School running back, Wes Howard (35), carries five Burley High School defenders during second quarter action at Holt Arena Friday night.

POCATELLO - Quarterback Hayden Green barked out the play call in Pocatello's huddle for its fourth-down attempt: a quick toss off left tackle for running back Wes Howard.

The Indians already had run that exact play three times in little more than a quarter. Was Howard worried Burley's defense finally would stuff it?

Not one bit.

"They just couldn't stop us," Howard said. "We dominated them up front. When you have that, you can make anything happen. I knew it was going to go."

Howard plowed through the line of scrimmage on that attempt, just as he and the Indians did all night in a 42-6 trouncing of the Bobcats on Friday at Holt Arena.

Bouncing off multiple tackles when they weren't streaking through gaping holes in the line, Howard and Zack McCain each surpassed 100 yards rushing and helped Pocatello amass 345 yards and five touchdowns on the ground in its homecoming game.

"Everything was working," Pocatello coach Tom Harrison said. "We were working on all 11 cylinders in this game."
