POCATELLO — The open burn ban will be lifted within Pocatello city limits starting on Oct. 1.
The ban was lifted based on a recent recommendation made by Pocatello Fire Chief David Gates. He concluded that given the significant amount of moisture we’ve been receiving and the cooler temperatures, there was no longer a need for the ban.
However, municipal code prohibits the burning of substances of any kind other than recreational fires except by special permit issued by the fire department in accordance with state regulations. Citizens wishing to conduct an open burn must still obtain the required permit from Pocatello Fire Department officials.
All open fires were banned in the city of Pocatello by members of the city council on July 25 due to a high fire danger level.
