POCATELLO — On Saturday, July 20, the area around the band shell at Lower Ross Park will be filled with the sight and sound of people from all faiths coming together for the benefit of the community.

The second annual Revival on the Rock event will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will feature live music from several local worship groups as well as several well-known contemporary Christian music groups from the Boise area.

Boise area based Christian music bands Undignified, Lamp in the Dark, PSone50 and Matte Black are scheduled to perform, as well as the RMM Band from Rocky Mountain Ministries and the Blazing Grace Worship Team in Pocatello.

Mike Sanders will be the emcee for the day’s events.

Inspirational speakers will talk between the music, and there will be a barbecue, as well as activities for kids including bouncy houses. There will also be pastors and others who will be willing to speak to anyone and anyone seeking advice or comfort.

“The organization is dedicated to serving Jesus by leading the lost to Christ, revitalizing believers and reminding them to return to their first love, and bringing a spiritual awakening to Southeast Idaho,” said Koch.

Money raised will benefit women being released from the Pocatello Women’s Correctional Center and homeless female veterans in our community. At this time, no programs exist here for women coming out of prison, and often having no support causes them to go back to the situations that caused them to be incarcerated. Also, female veterans can face different challenges, including raising children on their own and dealing with military sexual trauma. The Blazing Grace Church is hoping to establish a facility to help such women.

The facility is being modeled after a similar program that already exists in Boise. A representative of the existing program will be one of the featured speakers at the July 20 event.

“We have a population of homeless women (in Pocatello). When these women get out of prison they have no where to go,” said Shannon Koch, one the event organizers.

Koch says the most unique things about this event is that, not only are all people invited and encouraged to attend, regardless of religious background, but many local faiths have been working to put it together. Members from 13 churches are organizing this year’s Revival on the Rock.

“One of the things that we believe is ‘Father, let them all be one as we are one,’” said Koch, quoting John 17:21 from the Bible. “All of the Christian faiths are organizing this, and we are hoping it brings people together,” she continued.

Nathaniel Conein, Lamp in the Dark guitarist, is excited to be returning to Pocatello for the second Revival on the Rock concert. He agrees that it is important for people to come together for the positive, and music is a great way to do that. The band name itself echoes that message.

“A lamp in the dark is what we are called to be by Christ, what we are called to be in spiritual darkness,” he said.

Lamp in the Darkness recently finished recording their first album, entitled “Drowning,” which is also a title of one of the songs.

“It is about drowning in sin, and about Christ pulling us out of that,” said Conein.

The band will be playing all original music at the July 20 concert.

Many local sponsors are contributing to help pay for the food and other associated costs with the event, and all money raised will go back into the community.

Koch is amazed at the support the event is receiving and how it has grown.

“Last year we just got our big toe in the water,” she said, “but this year we are going to put Pocatello on the map.”
