POCATELLO—Firefighters have again evacuated a building in Old Town Pocatello because of harmful levels of methane being detected inside.

The building that houses The Muse boutique and several apartments at the corner of North Main and Wyeth streets has been evacuated several times since the gas was first detected on Friday.

As of 5 p.m. Tuesday the evacuation order had not been lifted and firefighters were using fans to try to disperse the gas.

Firefighters said the gas is toxic methane and it's likely coming from under the street rather than inside the building. The gas is strong enough that exposure could cause harm. Thus far no one has been hospitalized because of the gas.

The Fire Department is still trying to find the exact source of the gas so that it can be eliminated. The federal Environmental Protection Agency might also be called in to help.
