Law enforcement officers and firefighters throughout east Idaho have responded to numerous incidents in the past two days. 

People were reportedly injured in two recent accidents, one on I-86, and one on the Salem Road overpass across U.S. Highway 20 in Rexburg. 

The first accident occurred Sunday afternoon near the Coldwater Hill Rest Area off of I-86, close to the Power and Cassia county lines.

An Idaho State Police dispatcher said that fiery crash involved a semi truck and a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu, and caused the offramp and the eastbound lane to close temporarily. The adult woman, who was driving the car, was transported to Harms Memorial Hospital following the accident, but additional details weren’t available at press time. 

The crash in Rexburg occurred on Monday afternoon and involved an Acura sedan and a Toyota 4-Runner.

The teenage girl, who was driving the Acura, and her younger brother had to be extricated from the car, and both were transported to Madison Memorial Hospital. Madison Assistant Fire Chief Mikel Walker said their injuries didn’t appear to be life-threatening. 

There were two women and two men in the Toyota, but none of them were injured in the incident. 

Emergency responders were also called to help a woman who was lying on the side of  Jensen Road in the McCammon area on Monday. Bannock County dispatchers said the woman was reportedly walking her dog when an unspecified medical issue occurred. Additional details weren’t available. 

Bingham County Sheriff’s deputies also responded to a rollover accident near Rockford, west of Blackfoot, on Monday morning. 

Capt. Robert Sobieski said a red passenger car went of the road and rolled near 675 W. Highway 39. No one was transported to the hospital following that incident. 

Pocatello firefighters also responded to a vehicle fire at 3256 U.S. Highway 30 on Monday afternoon. 

Acting captain Adam Davis said that incident occurred around 1 p.m. and involved a 1995 Chevrolet S-10 Blaser. There were two adult men in the vehicle, but they were able to exit safely.

“(The vehicle) started smoking so they pulled over and then it caught fire,” Davis said. 

The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined, but it appeared to have started in the engine compartment, Davis said, adding that it was likely a mechanical issue. He estimates the fire caused about $4,000 in damage.
