CHUBBUCK — When you step inside the Mystique Theatre’s ice cream shop, you can’t help but notice the rainbow colored ceiling that’s filled with decorative  lollipops made out of wood.

    Actual lollipops are also for sale at the newly remodeled Candy & Cream A Family Treatery located inside and to the right of the main theatre, 158 E. Chubbuck Rd.

     “We put on high value productions here at Mystique, and the ice cream shop is no different,” comments Kristi Curtis, manager of the concessions area. “We added some bright colors to the room and gave it a Willy Wonka kind of feel.”

    Disney movie-themed music plays in the background while customers choose from one of 25 different ice cream flavors. Members of the theatre production are the ones serving up scoops of Reed’s Dairy ice cream.

    “We have the best atmosphere here,” Curtis says. “Plus, the scoops of ice cream are only $1 each, sales tax included.”

    The performers, who double as concession stand workers, are not in costume. However, they do take song requests.

    “Even though they’re not in costume, per say, they would be glad to sing a song for you,” Curtis says. “The performers always love the limelight.”

    Before the ice cream shop opened, the concessions area was only open prior to the show.

    “This is our way to keep us going when the theatre is dark,” Curtis explains. “It’s also good exposure for people who have never been inside the facility.”

    Besides soda, candy bars and licorice, a variety of old-fashioned candy is up for grabs at Candy & Cream A Family Treatery. Clear candy jars are filled with red hots, fireballs, cinnamon bears and lollipops.

    “We can’t keep up with the demand for cotton candy,” Curtis adds.

    A separate entrance to the candy and ice cream shop has been established and is located on the right-hand-side of the building.

    “We also have a terrace where people are welcome to eat their ice cream,” Curtis points out.

    The candy and ice cream shop is open from noon to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

    “We also offer tea parties with Disney princesses,” Curtis says. “Right now, Belle is the princess parents can book parties with. The theme is based on our upcoming Beauty and the Beast production.”

    Beauty and the Beast performances run August 23 to September 15.
