LOGAN, Utah — Law enforcement has identified two adults found dead Monday morning near the Logan River south of the Idaho-Utah border as Garrett and Meredith Dutcher, a couple who had been reported missing the previous day when a concerning note was found by family members.

According to Cache County Sheriff Chad Jensen, the bodies were discovered by duck hunters approximately five miles west of Logan and just south of Highway 30. The hunters contacted law enforcement at 9:45 a.m.

The Cache County Sheriff’s Office and Logan City Police investigators responded to the location and identified the couple.

Jensen said the cause of death is still under investigation.

The Cache County Sheriff’s Office will be investigating the couple’s death, working with Logan City investigators and the families of the deceased.

“Our hearts are with the couple’s family and friends during this tragic time of loss,” stated the Logan City Police Department in a news release.

Early Monday the Logan City Police Department was asking for help locating Garrett Dutcher, 41, and Meredith Dutcher, 42, of Logan, who went missing on Sunday.

According to a police press release Monday morning, the couple’s family members found a typed note that concerned them. The note gave instructions on what family members should do with the couple’s property and vehicle left at home.

Police believe the Dutchers may have left their residence on foot. Officers searched the residence and surrounding areas, but the couple remained missing until their bodies were found by the duck hunters.
