    BLACKFOOT —  A fire suppression training exercise is scheduled to take place near Rich Lane and the Spring Drive areas this Saturday, May 18 from approximately 10 a.m. to  3 p.m.

    The incident command post will be set up at the Eastern Idaho State Fairgrounds, according to a news release.

    Those with the Upper Snake Interagency Wildfire Group and the Gateway Interagency Fire Front will oversee the wildfire simulation.

    About 100 firefighters will have the opportunity to review wildfire suppression strategies, skills associated with emergency medical services and structure protection tactics.

    Moreover, fire personnel will utilize this opportunity to engage in training, work on radio communication, familiarize themselves with the area and develop better working relationships with local departments.

    Participants include fire personnel and resources from Blackfoot, Fort Hall, Pocatello, Chubbuck, Inkom, Pocatello Valley, Idaho Falls, Swan Valley, Ammon, Shelley/Firth, Central Fire Department, Ucon, Teton and Madison County Fire Departments, as well as those with the Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security, the National Weather Service, Bingham County Emergency Management, Idaho National Laboratory, the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service.
