POCATELLO — A local pastor was recently appointed to serve as the president of Bethel Latin American Corporation of Christian Churches — a position he could hold for quite some time.

The Rev. Steven Rodriguez, pastor of the Church without Walls in Pocatello, became the president of the non-profit religious organization in June. He succeeds his mentor, the Rev. Florencio Salas, who served in the post for nearly 50 years.

“I feel like it’s an honor serving God and doing His will,” Rodriguez said. “It’s a lot of responsibility. I took a big job, but I’m happy with it and I feel comfortable with it.”

Although Rodriguez is new to the presidency, he’s no stranger to the work. He’s been involved in ministry for many years and has been affiliated with Bethel Latin American Corporation of Christian Churches for 46 years, according to a news release.

Rodriguez educates and trains ministers, and has been instrumental in recruiting ministers for the organization, according to the news release, which describes him as a “man of integrity” and someone who has a “servants heart for God and the ministry field.”

“We are excited to see God’s favor and the impact that Rev Steve will bring to the organization,” the news release states.

As president, Rodriguez said he will work with many churches and ensure things are running well and in accordance with God’s will. He will also help guide ministers.

“I will try to help in every area that they need,” he said, adding he will assist the ministers with their concerns and pray with them to find answers.

Rodriguez will also participate in conferences and will continue training ministers and missionaries as they prepare for service.

In addition to his responsibilities as president, Rodriguez said he and his wife, Ilaria, also plan to continue their work at the Church without Walls. The church does a lot of outreach work in Pocatello and other communities in Idaho.

Rodriguez said they try to hold meetings on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, where they have a prayer and a brief message. They also offer hot meals, clothing and other items to those in need — no matter what their faith is or their situation in life — during the events.

Rodriguez said their next meeting will take place at The Salvation Army, located at 400 North 4th Ave. in Pocatello, at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

He says they are always looking for financial, food and clothing donations to help in their outreach efforts. They are also currently in need of some folding tables.
