POCATELLO — More than a dozen female drivers have signed up to take part in the Ladies Shoot Out at the Pocatello Raceway.

    The event, set for Aug. 22, will raise awareness about breast cancer and money for the Shannon Potter Fun Fund, established by the Portneuf Health Care Foundation.

    Organizer and race car driver Mirinda Climer said some of the best female drivers in the Pacific Northwest will be in Pocatello for the event.

    The drivers will run 30 laps on the flat track in street stock racers.

    Climer said raffles for prizes donated by local merchants will also be held during the Shoot Out.

    The event has earned a number of sponsorships, but Climer said they’re looking for more.

    A third-generation driver, Climer, No. 25, drives a 1978 Oldsmobile Cutlass.

    Climer is a 2014 NASCAR Division II state champion and 2014 Super Stock Champion — she drives for Rebel Racing out of Gooding.

    The Shannon Potter Fun Fund was set up when Shannon was diagnosed with stage-four breast cancer at the age of 31, and set out to establish a fund to help ensure a degree of normalcy for the families of cancer patients.

    The fund helps families meet crucial needs while going through treatment and pays for extra-curricular activities for the children of cancer patients.

    “A lot of times families have to cut expenses because of treatment and the Fun Fund makes sure that after school activities don’t have to be cut out,” Climer said.

    Climer said drivers can register right up to the day of the event, there is no registration fee.
