POCATELLO — A symposium on people who stutter designed specifically for speech-language pathologists and school counselors will be held Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Wood River Room in Idaho State University’s Pond Student Uinon.

    The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at ISU and Friends of People who Stutter are co-sponsoring the one-day symposium with breakfast and lunch provided. Friends is a national volunteer organization created to provide a network of support for children and teenagers who stutter, their families and the professionals who work with them and can be contacted at 866-866-8335 www.friendswhostutter.org.

    This one-day workshop is designed to bring together young children and teenagers who stutter, their parents, members of stuttering self-help groups, speech language pathologists and school counselors. Adults who stutter are encouraged join us. Separate workshops will be presented for professional, adults, and young people.

    The workshop format includes presentations, small discussion groups and panel presentations. Emphasis will be placed on integrating treatment techniques and support services for people who stutter. Offerings for children will include enjoyable workshops on stuttering facilitated by speech language pathologists and members of the adult stuttering community.

    The symposium offers 0.55 CEUs for Speech Language Pathologists and School Counselors, with early bird fees as low as $25 for individuals, $50 for families, and $55 for professionals. Additionally, if professionals sign up with a client's family the early bird fee is $35.
