IDAHO FALLS — Applications are now being accepted for the 2014 fire season at the Bureau of Land Management Idaho Falls District office.

    BLM officials are looking to fill jobs in the Idaho Falls, Pocatello and Salmon areas.

     “Becoming a wildland firefighter can lead to a great career with many opportunities," said Idaho Falls BLM Fire Operations Specialist Richard Zimmerman. "You spend your time working outside, get to see some great country and learn valuable skills.”

     Wildland firefighting is a very diverse profession and provides a wide array of job experience, according to a news release.

    Moreover, firefighters learn how to run fire fighting equipment such as chainsaws, wildland fire engines, water pumps and other mechanized tools. They also learn how to read the weather and record it, efficiently dig fire line, safely cut down trees, conduct safety briefings and drills.

    Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license. Online applications must be received by Jan. 28, 2014 for first consideration.
