IDAHO FALLS — A man who allegedly attacked several officers and was taken to the hospital after being tased was formally charged on Tuesday afternoon.

     Ronald R. Mencer, Jr., 44, of Idaho Falls, faces two counts of battery on an officer, as well as obstructing and resisting arrest. Both are misdemeanor charges.

    According to the police report, Mencer attacked two Idaho Falls Police Department officers on April 7 in the 400 block of G Street. They were responding to the report of a possible disturbance.

     While speaking with a resident along G Street, a male, later identified as Ronald R. Mencer, Jr., reportedly approached the officers. Authorities at the scene indicated that the stun gun was ineffective in stopping him from trying to kick and bite them. He lost consciousness after he was stunned multiple times. They also say that Mencer had a screwdriver in his hand and had attempted to hit officers with it.

    Paramedics took Mencer to the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries.

    Due to the nature of this incident, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office deputies have been asked by the IFPD officials to conduct an internal investigation.

    Mencer is currently being housed at the Bonneville County Jail.
