BLACKFOOT — A hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to take a 22-year-old Blackfoot man to trial for murder has been postponed until next month. 

Adan Arroyo was supposed to have his preliminary hearing on Feb. 1, but the hearing was continued until March since Bonneville County Prosecutor Bruce L. Pickett and defense attorney Justin B. Oleson are still waiting on some reports from law enforcement. 

That’s common in a case like this, Pickett said Monday, but the delay is frustrating to the defense. 

“We barely know what the allegations are,” Oleson said. 

Arroyo has been charged with first-degree murder and a weapons enhancement. He faces a maximum penalty of life in prison or a death sentence as well as a $50,000 fine for the murder charge, and an additional 15 years in prison for the weapons enhancement charge. 

Arroyo was officially charged last month for his alleged role in the death of Idaho Falls resident Kirsty M. Aschliman. The 21-year-old was found lying on the side of East Lincoln Road near Ammon on Jan. 19; she had been shot four times in the head, Bonneville County Sheriff’s officials have said.
