POCATELLO — Nineteen years in the making, a ground-breaking ceremony for the Cheyenne Connector project is slated to take place today at 3 p.m. on the South Fifth Avenue side of the project.

      The east-to-west connector is to be built from Bannock Highway to South Fifth Avenue.

    “I hope everyone will plan to join us,” said Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad in a news release. “This is an important day for our community, and we need to celebrate.”

   Parking is restricted in the construction zone.

    However, transportation to the site will be provided by Pocatello Regional Transit busses. Interested parties should meet at the Bannock County Road and Bridge Department’s parking lot at 5500 S. Fifth Ave.

    Citizens should be aware they will have to walk a short distance from where they will be dropped off to arrive at the official groundbreaking location.

    “After 16-plus years, the city is excited to begin construction on this much anticipated road,” Blad said. “A lot of hard work and a lost of determination from many, many people have gone into making this project a reality.”
