The man who was injured in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 91 near Fort Hall Sunday night after police say he engaged in a pursuit was released from the hospital Tuesday.

    Ernest A. Bercier, Jr., 47, of Aberdeen, was transported to the Bannock County Jail around 2 p.m. He is charged with felony eluding an officer, reckless driving and driving without privileges.

    Authorities indicated the accident happened when Bercier was fleeing from Bannock County Sheriff's Office deputies after he failed to stop for a traffic violation. Bercier then collided with a 2003 Dodge caravan, driven by Aaron Martin, 33, of Chubbuck.

    Following the collision, Bercier reportedly drove off the roadway and into a canal.

    Bercier and his passenger Glenda Dixey, 43, of Pocatello, were transported to the Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello. Dixey was treated and released on May 26. Bercier stayed in an intensive care unit the first day. His health status was categorized as stable for the remainder of his stay, according to hospital officials.

    Martin and his passengers were not injured, according to Idaho State Police.

    The highway was blocked for approximately two hours.
