POCATELLO — Flute choir  Suite 212  will perform a free concert on Monday, December 10, at 7 p.m. at Goranson Hall, located in the Fine Arts Building on the Idaho State University campus.

    “It has been a number of years since we have presented a concert in Goranson Hall,” says co-director Sarah Jackson. “It feels like a re-visiting of our roots to the days when flute choir was a music course offered at the university,” she adds.

    The Quicksilver Trio, made up of Kathy Albano, Kathy Kirkham and Sarah Jackson, will begin the concert with James Hook’s “Trio No. VI” from Six Trios for Three Flutes, Op. 83. Molly York and Linda Rankin, who also perform with the Idaho State Civic Symphony, will then present Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Sheep May Safely Graze," arranged by Ricky Lombardo.

     “The choir is excited to debut three recently acquired selections, “As Eagles Flew,” by Phyllis Avidan Louke, “Movement I” from Franz Schubert’s “Arpeggione” Sonata, and “Mock Morris,” by Percy Aldridge Grainger,” says director Molly York. She adds, “The choir will also present a short repertoire of holiday music that includes “Bring a Torch, Jeannette, Isabella,” “Pat a Pan,” and “Angel’s We Have Heard On High,” arranged by Catherine McMichael, “Simple Gifts,” arranged by Frank Halferty, and a few of Phyllis Avidan Louke’s holiday arrangements.”

    The members of Suite 212 are Kathy Albano, Elizabeth Bolinger, Ruth Harten, Sarah Jackson, Celia Kampwerth, Jill Kirkham, Kathy Kirkham, Terry Lewis, Margo Mandella, Tonya Mauseth, Linda Rankin, Loren Weaver, and Molly York.  

    Free parking for the concert is available in the Idaho State University main parking lot adjacent to the Fine Arts Building on South 5th Avenue.

    Suite 212 includes piccolo, C flutes, alto flutes and bass flute and was started by former Pocatellan and nationally-known flutist Patricia George in 2001. Suite 212 has performed at National Flute Association Conventions in Las Vegas, Nevada,

and Albuquerque, New Mexico.
