DOWNEY — A fire along U.S. Highway 40 near Downey Thursday afternoon was quickly doused, causing damage only to a power pole, officials said.
The fire started shortly before 4 p.m. and winds threatened to fuel the fire out of control. At least one small structure was threatened but was not damaged. Officials estimate about an acre burned before the fire was doused.
Also of concern were cattle and other livestock in nearby fields but none were reportedly hurt in the fire. The cause was not immediately known Thursday evening.
