MALAD — The Bannock County Coroner's Office has identified the Pocatello man who died Wednesday afternoon after his van veered onto the shoulder of Interstate 15 north of Malad and struck a disabled car.

He was Jacob Reynolds, 31, of Pocatello.

The crash happened around 3:49 p.m. Wednesday on the northbound lanes of I-15 when Reynolds' GMC Savana van veered onto the shoulder and struck an unoccupied Ford Mustang, according to Idaho State Police. The van came to rest in the median. Reynolds, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected and was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

He was transported by ground ambulance and then emergency helicopter to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

"My deepest sympathies go out to Jacob's family and friends who are grieving this unexpected loss," Bannock County Coroner Torey Danner said.

The northbound left lane of I-15 was blocked for approximately three hours during the investigation. Troopers were assisted by the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, Oneida County Ambulance, the Idaho Transportation Department and the Bannock County Coroner's Office.

The crash remains under investigation by Idaho State Police.
