BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot School District Board of Trustees and the Blackfoot Education Association have completed their negotiations for next school year. 

The school board unanimously ratified the agreement — which details how salaries, health care, due process procedures and other work-related issues should be handled — during a meeting that lasted less than 10 minutes on Monday night. 

Of course, the negotiations have been underway for a lot longer than that. 

Blackfoot School District Superintendent Chad Struhs said subcommittees worked on the agreement throughout the year, and officials on both sides met together to discuss the negotiations in detail on several occasions. 

Jacalyn Bombard, co-president of the BEA, said they basically decided to go back to the agreement they had in place before the “Luna Laws” went into effect. Those laws were repealed by voters in November. 

“We put in a number of things that were taken out by the Luna Laws,” Bombard said, adding that they’re excited to have their due process procedures back, and the right to negotiate for things outside of salaries and benefits. 

Both Bombard and Struhs said they are grateful for the good relationship that exists between the school board and the BEA, and are excited to move forward. 

“We have a wonderful staff that is incredible to work with,” Struhs said. “They are good strong educators.”
