Below freezing temperatures caused several school districts in Southeast Idaho to close Thursday morning.

West Jefferson School District No. 253 decided to close Thursday because the cold temperatures made it too cold for the school buses to run. The temperature in Terreton, where the district offices are located, was -12 degrees Fahrenheit just before 9 a.m.

North Gem School District No. 149, located in and around Bancroft area, and Grace School District No. 148 also closed due to cold temperatures. Temperatures in those areas remained below zero at 9 a.m.

A representative with the City of Grace said that the wind chill factor also contributed to the decision to close school for the day.
