    Jan. 19, 1988: Two orphaned cougar kittens have been adopted by Ross Park Zoo in Pocatello. The zoo veterinarians will give them a check-up and gradually introduce them to a new diet. The zoo now has seven cougars.

    50 years ago

    Jan. 19, 1963: The wear and tear on pay telephones in Pocatello is getting pretty stiff. For the third time police officers discovered the theft of a pay telephone and found it abandoned, the coin box rifled.

    Jan. 19, 1963: Democrats, led by Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson, brushed aside domestic differences to hail party unity behind President Kennedy in his quest for world peace. The Democratic National Committee predicted a sweeping victory for the Kennedy-Johnson team in 1964.
