    Aug. 10, 1988: A South Korean businessman who helped Koreans get a taste of Idaho French fries, had a taste of Pocatello during a tour of the Pocatello Facilities Company. Woo Joo Chang said his fellow countrymen still call the potato dish “Idaho French fries.”

    50 years ago

    Aug. 10, 1963: Blue gentian blossoms from Switzerland brought together a Pocatello piano teacher and a Rhodesia educator, who had corresponded for two years but never met. The Pocatellan is Mrs. Fern Smith, Soroptimist Club, and her guest was Marjorie Sanders, president of Soroptimists in Rhodesia.

    Aug. 10, 1963: Republicans are demanding President Kennedy prove his claim that the limited nuclear test ban treaty will increase U.S. security. Kennedy is seeking a ban on atmospheric, space and underwater blasts.
