    May 29, 1988: About 50 boats and 100 vehicles were on hand at Hawkins Reservoir for the opening day of Idaho’s general fishing season. “We caught a bobber,” Bruce Rose, Pocatello said proudly. The biggest catch was Pocatello’s Joe Hatch, who landed a 2-pound trout.

    May 29, 1963: Violence flared at the Gay phosphate mine in the second day of a strike against the J.R. Simplot Company. A 40-year-old man and two youths were pulled from a car and beaten. One of the youths had just graduated from Pocatello High School.
