Officials in Ammon and Idaho Falls says there is still no word on the possibility of a Costco store locating in their respective towns.

    Brad Cramer, assistant planning director for Idaho Falls, estimates it was about a year ago that Costco first showed interest in locating to that city.

    “They have not made any decision yet,” Cramer said on Wednesday. “I have not heard from them since those early meetings.”

    Ammon’s city administrator and planning director, Ron Folsom, said the situation is similar in his city. They’ve heard nothing from Costco since those conversations a year ago.

    But Folsom has kept in contact with developers who would be involved in the project. A time for a decision, he said, continues to get pushed back. He’s also been given some speculation as to why that is.

    “One of the things we were told was that (Costco) opened a new prototype store somewhere in the Midwest, which they felt would meet this market’s demands and they are waiting to see how it performs before they make a decision,” Folsom said, adding that information didn’t come directly from Costco.
