POCATELLO — Utah native and composer/performer Kurt Bestor is set to perform his renowned show, “A Kurt Bestor Christmas” at Idaho State University on Dec. 18.

    The show is the next in the university’s Season of Note concert series, and will be held in the Jensen Grand Concert Hall of the Stephens Performing Arts Center in Pocatello.

    The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $38 for lower level and $34 for upper level seating. They can be purchased at the SPAC box office, which is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the school year.

    Bestor has composed music for more than 40 feature-length films, several television show themes, and 16 albums. His composition for ABC’s 1988 Winter Olympics coverage won an Emmy award.

    This year marks the 25th anniversary of the performances of his popular Christmas show. Bestor will conduct and emcee the Christmas show, which will feature a band and special guest performance by Irish singer Alex Sharp of the group Celtic Women. The audience will hear traditional Christmas songs performed with Bestor’s own innovative interpretation.

    A highlight of the show is Bestor’s performance of “Prayer for the Children,” a song he was inspired to write after serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Serbia in the 1970s.

    Many of the songs Bestor performers during the show can be found on his popular five-CD boxed set “The Complete Kurt Bestor Christmas.”
