BOISE - Following his election into the state House minority leadership, Rep. James Ruchti, D-Pocatello, said he is pushing for lawmakers to keep public and higher education sufficiently funded.

The state Legislature's Democratic Caucus elected Ruchti to be the new House assistant minority leader Wednesday night. Ruchti, who is serving his second legislative term, joins a three-member minority leadership that he said will help identify policies the Democratic caucus will support.
