POCATELLO - Monica White, coordinator of the Festival of Trees, said the Princess Tea Party hosted on Friday is the week-long fundraiser's most well attended child-oriented event.

"It sold out in about two hours," White said.

Today is the final day of the Festival of Trees, which began Monday evening with an opening gala, which White said was attended by about 350 people. During the week-long event, money is raised to help children in need afford medical care through the sale of decorated items - primarily Christmas trees - and tickets for several events, such as the Princess Tea Party.

The Festival of Trees is hosted at the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center and the Princess Tea Party was held in the Rotunda there.

Nancy Bickley, chairwoman of the Princess Tea Party, said more than 300 people attended this year's social event.

It's geared toward girls ages 3 to 8 who also bring mom with them.

"They are all princesses for the night," Bickley said. "They just love it."

The event is in its fourth year, and the tickets get harder and harder to get each year, she said.

For the $20 ticket, each princess is treated to a photo in front of a carriage or castle, they get to make their own hat, they are served dinner and get to hand out with the Fairy Godmother while enjoying some musical entertainment.

Even those serving the princess stay within the theme.

"We had seven Prince Charmings and 13 princesses helping out tonight," Bickley said.

The Fairy Godmother, who sometimes goes by Jana Farnes when she is incognito, was the mistress of ceremonies and got the night off to a rousing start. After she left the stage, she took time to visit with each of the princesses on hand.

Abby VanOrden, 6, was attending her first Princess Tea Party with her mother Amy VanOrden. The Fairy Godmother took a moment with Abby, leaning in close so the two could hear each other.

"She told me my dress looks good," Abby said.

The first-grader at Ridge Crest Elementary School in Blackfoot said she most liked all of the princesses walking around at the party. Many of them were clearly identifiable as one of the numerous Disney princesses.
