The Idaho State women’s soccer team came together on Monday, Nov. 5 to watch the 2012 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship Selection Show.

    The Bengals have drawn the top seed and defending National Champion Stanford Cardinal in Palo Alto, Calif. Game time is Friday, Nov. 9 at 8 p.m.

    “Stanford is a very well-coached team,” ISU head coach Allison Gibson said. “It is obviously going to be a tough battle for us, but we are excited. We will go into it with everything we have just like we have every other game.”

    The Cardinal (17-1-1) captured its fourth consecutive Pac-12 title and will be playing in its 15th consecutive NCAA tournament. The team is seeking to advance to its fifth consecutive College Cup, fourth consecutive final and successfully defend its national championship.

    This is the fourth consecutive year that the winner of the Big Sky Conference has faced Stanford in the first round. Stanford defeated Montana (3-0) in 2011, Sacramento State (3-0) in 2010 and Northern Arizona (2-0) in 2009.

    “We need to teach the kids the game has no emotions,” Gibson said. “I believe that will be completely true at this point. It’s still two goals, one ball, 22 players and make sure our team knows they are capable of doing anything.”

    The second round matchup will pit the Stanford-Idaho State winner against Santa Clara (11-3-6) or Long Beach State (12-7).

    “It’s exciting because it is going to be a test of our abilities, a real test of our heart and our confidence out there,” freshman goalkeeper Sheridan Hapsic said. “We are hoping that there will be some good news at the end of the game.”

    Tickets for the first round will be sold beginning Tuesday at 9 a.m. They can be purchased by phone at 1-800-STANFORD, online at gostanford.com or in person at the ticket office at Gate 4 of Stanford Stadium from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    Ticket prices are $17 for reserved seats. For general admission, adults are $10 and students, youth and seniors are $8.

    First round matches will be played at campus sites. Just one round will be played the first weekend, followed by two rounds at a single campus site the following weekend (Nov. 16 and 18).

    “It’s awesome and I’m so excited for the team,” senior midfielder Anna Pingree said. “To get Stanford is awesome. Obviously, I’m a little nervous, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m so thankful this all happened. It’s a dream come true.”

    The 31st annual NCAA Women's College Cup will be played Nov. 30 and Dec. 2 at the University of San Diego. This will be the first College Cup on the West Coast since it was held at San Jose's Spartan Stadium in 1999 and 2000.
