POCATELLO - The Aid for Friends Caldwell Park project continues today and Sunday. This is a fundraiser and awareness event emphasizing the plight of homeless people.

The schedule is as follows:

Today:

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration at the Salvation Army Canteen, constructing cardboard box shelters.

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Quaker Community of Pocatello will host a drive for new socks, mittens or gloves, scarves and hats for people staying at the emergency shelter.

A tent will be set up in the park to receive needed items.

Camp food drive for nonperishable canned goods is sponsored by Modern Woodmen of America.

Donors may drop off canned meats, tuna fish, canned spaghetti or ravioli, chili, beef stew, canned gravy, chicken or beef broth. The items will go directly to the emergency shelter.

Virtual van display will show how difficult it is to live in the winter without stable housing.

Aid for Friends staff will discuss the realities of homelessness and obstacles encountered when living in places not habitable for the long term.

Noon to 1 p.m.- Lunch and training, tips to building a shelter, avoiding frostbite and hypothermia.

1 to 2 p.m. Workshop on realities of Dumpster diving.

2 and 7 p.m. Poetry and prose readings.

3 to 4 p.m. Emergency preparedness lecture and display.

4 to 5 p.m. Training for tips on building a shelter, avoiding frostbite and hypothermia.

6 to 8 p.m. Soup line dinner, served by Boy Scout Troop No. 315; group discussion and conversation, music by Putnam Together.

8 to 10 p.m. Standing by the burn barrel.

Sunday:

7 to 10 a.m. Breakfast and break camp.

American Legion Riders will provide security patrol all night.
