BLACKFOOT - A local man faces involuntary manslaughter charges for allegedly shaking his infant son, resulting in the boy's death two weeks after the incident.

Ricardo Lopez-Santillan, 21, was originally charged with felony injury to a child after medical staff at Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City alerted authorities to report their diagnosis of shaken baby syndrome.

The charges were amended to involuntary manslaughter after the 4-month-old child died on Dec. 3.

Lopez-Santillan was arraigned on the amended charge Thursday before Seventh District Magistrate Charles L. Roos. Lopez-Santillan's next court appearance, a preliminary hearing, is scheduled for Jan. 7.
