Friends and co-workers learned Sunday KLCE radio personality Wayne Richards is in a Hawaiian hospital and currently on life-support following a snorkeling accident in the Pacific Ocean.
Richards, a resident of Idaho Falls, was vacationing with his family when the accident occurred.
Jim Burgoyne, president of Riverbend Communcations, said Richards was snorkeling with family members when he disappeared about 30 feet from shore.
"They got him out and performed CPR, and he's been placed on life-support," Burgoyne said.
Richards' condition is listed as critical.
He described Richards, who he's known for more than 30 years, as a great communicator.
"He was a really kind, nonconfrontational guy," Burgoyne said.
Richards real name is Wayne Johnson.
Liza Raley has co-hosted the morning radio show at KLCE with Richards for the past five years.
The well-known radio celebrity has been on the air for more than 20 years and also produces the annual Fourth of July Freedom Celebration in Idaho Falls. Richards also narrates the Teton Dam Museum in Rexburg and is the voice of "The Sounds of Sunday" on KLCE each Sunday morning.
"He is the legendary Wayne Richards. He is the voice of everything," Raley said. "People wake up with him every morning, he's their friend."
