Marsh Valley 40, West Side 36

DAYTON - Senior Abby Williams scored 11 points to lead the Marsh Valley girls' basketball team past West Side, 40-36, on Friday in Dayton.

The 3A Eagles held the 2A Pirates to three points in the first quarter and held a 22-15 lead at halftime.

"Our defense is doing better than expected them to do," said Marsh Valley coach Kyle McQuivey. "I learned that we can run a little more (of our plays) than I thought we could, especially early in the season."

Five other Eagles players scored, led by juniors Courtney Dunn and Molly Skinner, who each had eight points. Kelsey Keller led the Pirates with eight points.

Marsh Valley (1-0) visits 2A Soda Springs on Wednesday. That same night, West Side (0-1) travels to Arco to play Butte County.
