REXBURG - Lapses on defense caused the Pocatello girls' basketball team to drop a 52-34 loss at Madison on Tuesday.

The Indians trailed 19-15 entering the third quarter, but the Bobcats buried several 3-pointers to begin the period. Stretching their defense to defend the perimeter shot, the Indians then surrendered layups off dribble drives. The Bobcats outscored them 22-9 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

"They got a couple of easy buckets and before we know it, it's out of control," Pocatello coach Jeff Hough.

Brenna Brigham led the Indians with 19 points, but it wasn't enough to rally them.

"That was good to see," Hough said. "She's been playing a bit pasively lately. I challenged her tonight, and she stepped up to the challenge."

Pocatello (0-5) next hosts Century on Thursday.
