LOGAN, Utah - The Highland girls' basketball team survived an off shooting night to beat Box Elder out of Brigham City, Utah, 37-23 on Thursday to open the Sky View High tournament in Logan, Utah.

Senior post Emma Filiaga led the way for the Rams by scoring 14 points. No other Highland player scored more than six.

"We played hard the whole game. That's not a question with this group," said Rams coach Scott Hansen. "They play hard; they compete. Right now, we're just not shooting the ball well."

Against Box Elder, Highland made only 17-of-70 field goal attempts, but the Rams' defense held the opponent in check. Because of that defensive effort, Highland improved to 6-0 on the season.

"I'm happy we're winning," Hansen said. "We have a good group of girls, but we just have to do the little things to get to where we want to be."

On Day 2 of the tournament today, the Rams will face Mountain Crest out of Hyrum, Utah, at 5:30 p.m.
