DAYTON - The good news for the West Side boys' basketball team is that it hung right with Firth for one quarter.

After that? Not so much.

The Cougars completely dominated the second quarter on the way to a 51-21 win over the Pirates on Wednesday.

"We were right there for the first quarter," said West Side coach Tyler Brown, "and then everything went south."

Indeed.

After leading only 12-10 after the first eight minutes, Firth outscored West Side 19-2 in the second quarter to take a commanding 31-12 halftime lead.

Josh Roberts led the Pirates (1-4) with eight points, and Drew Povey chipped in six. West Side will travel to Utah on Friday to take on Rich County.
