POCATELLO — There is a new addition at Zoo Idaho.

Friday marked the official exhibit debut of a Mr. Budger Tod, a 3-month-old badger. Tod, originally from the Rockland area, was brought to the zoo after a female badger was struck with a tractor. A few days later, a badger cub was found in the fields. The family brought the cub home, notified the Idaho Department of Fish and Game and held the cub until Zoo Idaho staff could pick him up.

“We’re happy to formally welcome Mr. Budger Tod to the Zoo Idaho family,” said Peter Pruett, Zoo Idaho superintendent. “As with all the animals that call Zoo Idaho home, we’d rather see them spend their lives in the wild, but it’s not possible with our animals for one reason or another. Instead, we are excited they will help share the beauty of Idaho’s wildlife with our visitors.”

2017 also marks the debut of five animals at the zoo, including Hamlet, a pronghorn; Gigi, a mule deer; and Big Bob, a bull elk. Later this year Rogue, a bobcat, and Beethoven, a silver-phase red fox, will be making their public debut on exhibit. The new additions arrived at the zoo after being brought to the facility by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.

Zoo Idaho is an indigenous species zoo, housing numerous orphaned or injured animals from the region who would have likely not survived in the wild.

The zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 1 to Sept. 4. General admission to the zoo is free for ages 0 to 2, $3.75 for ages 3 to 11, $5.75 for ages 12 to 59 and $4.50 for ages 60 and up.
