Business continues to be brisk more than three years since Collet’s reopened and the iconic Firth restaurant and bar has added even more activities to keep patrons entertained.

“We pretty much have something going on every night,” said Holly Johnson, one of Collet’s owners. “We just added bingo about a month ago, and that’s been a lot of fun.”

Collet’s opened in 1930 and has been operated by multiple family generations until Danny Collet, who had to close the business in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, after 25 years of owning it. It was a couple of years later, in 2022, when Holly and her husband, Brian Johnson, got the chance to reopen Collet’s.

The Johnsons had prior experience in the food industry, having run a booth at the Eastern Idaho State Fairgrounds for 10 years. They served burgers and developed their pork chop on a stick and the now famous garlic crab fries.

They sold the booth, and along with it their recipes, but did retain the rights to serve the garlic crab fries on occasion as part of the agreement, and they can be found at Collet’s on the first Saturday of each month.

Because Collet’s has a pub-style atmosphere, there are those typical things you might find in a pub, such as pool and darts, which Johnson said are free on Tuesday night. They also added some tablets with which customers can play any number of games for free, including their popular trivia game.

But about a month ago, Collet’s added bingo on Monday nights. The bingo is free for patrons and runs from 7 to 9 p.m.

“It depends on how many people are there, but we usually play about 10 games give or take,” she said. “The prizes aren’t huge, but we do one $25 gift card winner each (Monday) night.”

The prizes for most of the games usually consists of a T-shirt, or a glass or some other Collet’s merchandise. They also put the names of all the adult patrons from each bingo night into a monthly drawing for a $100 gift card or a night’s stay in Lava Hot Springs.

Everyone, young and old, can play bingo, but Johnson said they have a limited number of tablets.

“So, you can also play on your phone or bring your own tablet,” she said.

Collet’s is a family-friendly place that features some typical pub style foods, including burgers, steaks, Philly cheesesteaks, seafood and lots of appetizer choices, she said.

Collet’s is located at 132 S. Main St. in Firth and opens at 11 a.m. Monday to Saturday. It closes at 10 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, at midnight on Thursday, and at 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Collet’s is closed on Sundays.
