West Side 40, Grace 0
GRACE - With its offense sputtering, the Grace defense eventually tired out in a 40-0 loss to West Side on Friday.
"There were times at the beginning of the game we stopped 'em on fourth down and got the ball back," Grizzlies coach Steve Millward said. "We couldn't get anything going offensively, and our defense wore down."
Mitch Bowles had 17 carries for 131 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Pirates.
"Mitch did an outstanding job," West Side coach Tyson Moser said. "He was out with the flu for the last half of the week. He wasn't in school and wasn't in practice for most of the time. I wasn't sure if we'd get a full four quarters of him tonight."
Actually, Moser said, three of the Pirates regular starters did miss the game because of the flu.
"This game just had me scared to death," Moser said. "With their spread offense, they can score at any moment."
The win pushed West Side to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in 2A Fifth District play. The Pirates will travel to Malad next week for a clash with fellow their league unbeaten. Grace fell to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The Grizzlies will travel to face rival Soda Springs next week.
