POCATELLO — The Pocatello Veterans Day Parade will take place Saturday, Nov. 12, after an 80-year absence.
The Pocatello Veterans Day Parade Committee gave further guidelines and information about the parade in a press release on Tuesday. They said the lineup for parade participants will be at South First Avenue at 7 a.m. There will be two entry points for participants at East Whitman Street and East Bonneville Street.
There will be no entry fee for participants, but all floats and vehicles will need to be approved. Participants will need to contact the committee at vfwccpost735@ gmail.com or at 208-221-0077 to be placed on the lineup sheet and to know their position in the parade.
The parade will start at the intersection of South First Avenue and East Center Street. It will go up East Center Street by Caldwell Park. Paul Anderson will be the announcer and Idaho State University will livestream the parade on Facebook and YouTube. After going by Caldwell Park, it will continue on South 15 Avenue. It will end at the east parking lot at Reed Gym.
The parade will feature an Honor Walk. Participants planning to walk will need to provide the name of the participant, the name of the veteran they are walking for, that veteran's military branch and any other information they would like to share. That will be announced by Paul Anderson as the Honor Walk participants walk through Caldwell Park. Bleachers will be set up near Paul Anderson, and anyone near Caldwell Park will be able to hear him.
Organizations will be able to set up booths at Caldwell Park. Pocatello Parks and Recreation has allowed any Veterans Service Organization (VSO), military branches, and community clubs to be able to set up booths for free. Any booth or tent will need to be approved by the committee. The time to set up booths will be at 7 a.m. and the time to take them down will be at 2 p.m. There will be no assigned locations for booths.
The committee invites any VSOs that will be participating in the parade to share the names, branches and deployment information about any parade participants. That information will be announced as they pass by Caldwell Park. The committee will also provide vinyl banners for every VSO that will show its name and when it was founded. The Boy Scouts of America will carry the banners.
The committee said in the press release that it's important for every participant to sign up as soon as possible so they can get on the lineup sheet. For more parade information or to sign up for a float, visit pocatelloveteransdayparade.com.
