Recruiting patience paid off for Idaho State women’s basketball coach Seton Sobolewski.

The Bengals have had one roster space left to fill for next season for a few weeks now. Sobolewski said he could have filled it much earlier with a wing player from just about any level imaginable: high school, junior college, international or the transfer portal. But he was willing to wait to find the right fit.

On Tuesday, Sobolewski announced he found his final recruit for next season, and she fits the description of what he was looking for.

Aziliz Le Guen, a 6-foot-1, 21-year-old freshman from France, is the latest — and last — addition to the Bengal roster. Le Guen has extensive international experience — in fact, she’ll have to sit out the first four games of next season because she briefly played with a professional team, Sobolewski said.

But she’s apparently worth waiting for.

“Aziliz is a 6-1 guard/forward with lots of international playing experience,” Sobolewski said. “Good set shooter and can finish at the basket. She has a good feel for the game.”

Le Guen was teammates with current Bengal guard Maeva Gauffrenet, who is also from France, earlier in her career.

With Le Guen’s signing, the ISU roster for next season looks like this:

Caldwell finished the season as ISU’s starting point guard last year, Gauffrenet and Wolfram saw significant minutes off the bench as true freshmen, and Sucacuexe sat out due to an injury and is unlikely to see minutes this year due to continuing health issues.

All the remaining players on the roster are newcomers to the Bengal program. Sobolewski, ISU’s all-time winningest women’s basketball coach, will have to create culture with all those new faces in a hurry as he approaches his 19th season at the helm. The Bengals finished last season 19-11 overall, 12-6 and in fourth place in the Big Sky Conference.
