Malad 50, West Side 45

MALAD - The Malad boys' basketball team started strong Friday, and that proved to be the difference in a 50-45 win over West Side.

With the win, the Dragons finish their season 5-13 overall and 4-4 in 2A Fifth District play, while the Pirates ended the regular season with a 8-10 and 3-5 mark.

After the first quarter, Malad led 10-5, which ultimately ended up being the final margin of victory.

West Side's Josh Roberts led all scorers with 10 points, while Dallas Turnbow added 11 points for the Pirates. Jared Jones and Jade Clark led the Dragons with 15 points each.

The 2A Fifth District tournament begins Tuesday.

Mackay 57, Rockland 44

ROCKLAND - Foul trouble and the Mackay boys' basketball team were too much for Rockland to overcome in a 57-44 loss on Friday.

Entering the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs trailed only 39-38, but they had several key players foul out, which allowed the Miners to pull away.

"We played really hard and really well," said Rockland coach Dan Ralphs. "In the fourth quarter, we fouled people out, and that hurt us bad."

Jordan O'Brien led the Bulldogs with 14 points, while Tyrel Turley added 11 points.

Rockland (5-10 overall, 3-5 1A Division II Rocky Mountain) will open its league tournament against Clark County on Tuesday in Firth.

American Falls 52, Bear Lake 50

AMERICAN FALLS - The American Falls boys' basketball team won its first district game of the season on Friday by defeating Bear Lake 52-50.

The Beavers rallied from an early 15-6 deficit to win the game. Most of that gap was made up in the fourth quarter, when they outscored the Bears 22-11.

"We did a really good job of fighting back," coach Roger Thomas said. "The kids were aggressive in the second quarter and got the win."

Jordan Flores led the Beavers with 15 points. Thomas said he was hot all night shooting the ball.

With the win, American Falls improved to 8-12 overall and 1-5 in district play. It next plays in the 3A Fifth District tournament.

Grace 62, Soda Springs 46

GRACE - Behind an incredible 27-point fourth quarter, the Grace boys' basketball team thumped Soda Springs 62-46 on Friday.

The Grizzlies fell behind 14-8 after the first quarter but led the rest of the way.

"We got off to a slow start but the defensive intensity picked up in the second half," coach Rory Lloyd said. "It was probably a closer game than the score indicates, but we had a really good, strong fourth quarter."

Todd Lloyd led Grace with 15 points and Sam Corbitt was right behind him with 13.

With the win, Grace improved to 10-8 overall and 4-4 in district play. It next plays on Thursday in the second round of the 2A Fifth District tournament.
