MORELAND - Snake River only completed one pass in the windy and wet conditions Friday night, but the way the Panthers' rushing attack was cruising, they didn't need to air it out.

Seven different runners combined for eight rushing touchdowns, and Snake River rolled to a 63-8 victory over Bear Lake in the 3A Fifth District opener for both teams.

"It was a miserable night out here," Panthers coach Jeff Dalley said. "To be able to run the ball like that was good. They got after them right from the beginning and took the fight out of 'em."

Emmitt Smith set the tone with scoring runs of 15 and 52 yards in the first quarter, and he finished with a team-high 138 yards on seven carries. Jacob Reece scored on a 53-yard run in the first quarter and ended with 112 yards on eight carries.

Snake River improved to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in league play. It'll host American Falls next week. Bear Lake dropped to 1-5 and 0-1. The Bears will host Marsh Valley next.

Marsh Valley 41, American Falls 14

AMERICAN FALLS - Senior Dylan Bybee had a night that'll be hard to top in Marsh Valley's 41-14 win at American Falls on Friday.

The running back scored six touchdowns while piling up 330 yards on 17 carries. His scores went for 2, 55, 46, 65, 38 and 42 yards, respectively.

With the win, the Eagles improved to 6-0 overall and 1-0 in 3A Fifth District play. American Falls is now 1-5 and 0-1.

Malad 35, Aberdeen 18

ABERDEEN - Malad's offense found its rhythm in the second half, and the Dragons turned a two-point game at halftime into a 35-18 win Friday at Aberdeen.

"We built up some momentum in the second half," Malad coach McKay Young said. "The offense started clicking."

Dragons running back Caleb Bennett had 30 carries for 233 yards and a touchdown, and quarterback Kaden Goddard ran for three scores and threw for another.

At halftime, Malad led 14-12, but it was able to pull away with two unanswered touchdowns in the second half.

"Aberdeen played well both sides of the ball," Young said. "I was happy with the way our offense got going in the second half."

The Tigers scored on a pair of big plays - a 69-yard kick return by Austin George in the second quarter and an 86-yard run by Wade Wahlen in the fourth.

With the win, Malad moved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in 2A Fifth District play. The Dragons will host West Side next week with the league title on the line.

Aberdeen dropped to 2-4 and 1-2.

West Side 40, Grace 0

GRACE - With its offense sputtering, the Grace defense eventually tired out in a 40-0 loss to West Side on Friday.

"There were times at the beginning of the game we stopped 'em on fourth down and got the ball back," Grizzlies coach Steve Millward said. "We couldn't get anything going offensively, and our defense wore down."

Mitch Bowles had 17 carries for 131 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Pirates.

"Mitch did an outstanding job," West Side coach Tyson Moser said. "He was out with the flu for the last half of the week. He wasn't in school and wasn't in practice for most of the time. I wasn't sure if we'd get a full four quarters of him tonight."

Actually, Moser said, three of the Pirates regular starters did miss the game because of the flu.

"This game just had me scared to death," Moser said. "With their spread offense, they can score at any moment."

The win pushed West Side to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in 2A Fifth District play. The Pirates will travel to Malad next week for a clash with their fellow league unbeaten.

Grace fell to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The Grizzlies will travel to face rival Soda Springs next week.

Raft River 44, North Gem 8

BANCROFT - Raft River capitalized on five turnovers to defeat North Gem, 44-8, on Friday.

"Five turnovers didn't help us, that's for sure," North Gem coach Kevin Carey said. "We put the ball on the ground a lot tonight."

After the first quarter, Raft River held a 14-8 lead. However, in the second quarter, the cowboys fumbled the ball twice and tossed an interception. Raft River turned all three mistakes into scores.

The second half went much better for North Gem, though.

"In the third quarter the defense played better," Carey said. "I was impressed with the way our guys stuck in there."

North Gem (4-2) next plays host to Murtaugh at

4 p.m. on Friday.

Mackay 42, Rockland 12

ROCKLAND - Despite a close first half, Mackay took over the second half to defeat Rockland, 42-12, Friday.

"The game was a lot better than the score indicated," Rockland coach Steven May said.

Rockland led most of the first half, but Mackay went into halftime with a 8-6 lead. Rockland took the lead back, 12-8 in the third quarter. However, four Rockland turnovers later, Mackay had a significant lead.

"They had pretty good pressure on our quarterback," May said. "There were blocked passes that got picked off. The defensive pressure got to us."

Cody Hidalgo had a good game for Rockland on the defensive side of the ball.

"Cody Hidalgo had a good day on defense," May said. "He was covering the pass and the run and had probably 10 tackles."
