RUPERT - For the second conseuctive week, the Pocatello wrestling team put on an impressive display at a major tournament.

A week after finishing second at the Tiger-Grizz tournament, the Indians captured the 24-team 2009 Red Halverson Memorial Wrestling Invitational at Minico High with 188.50 points. Highland finished second with 178.50.

"We started the day hot and didn't let up," said Pocatello coach Todd Praska. "We had our sights on the championship, and nothing was going to deny us."

The Indians started final day of the two-day event in fifth place, but the 4A powers had four individual champions to vault into the lead.

Tyler Praska (112), Abner Cook (152), Dallas Warren (160) and Trevor Rupp (215) won individual titles for Pocatello.

Cook, who is 26-0 on the season, took home the Most Outstanding Wrestler honor for the second straight week, while Rupp and Warren pinned all of their opponents on the way to their first-place finishes. Rupp is 22-0 on the year, while Warren is 23-1.

"We were impressive in a tough tournament with many tough individuals from all classes and all parts of the state," Praska said. "We showed that against tough competition, we wrestle better instead of folding under the pressure."

The Rams didn't fare as well on Day Two of the event, coach Travis Bell said.

"Yesterday, we wrestled really well," he said, "but this morning, we lost seven matches in a row after we had control early. It just didn't feel like our day."

Still, Highland had nine placers, with Brennan Bell (103) and Gaylen Edmo (285) leading the way with second-place finishes.

"We didn't wrestle very well," Bell said. "It's good to take second out of a 24-team tournament, but when you don't wrestle up to your potential, It's frustrating."

Snake River fared the next best out of Fifth District teams, as the Panthers ended up in 10th place with 98 points behind second-place finishes by Jonathan Turpin (112), Ben Lott (152) and Scott Jones (171).
