Scoring is sometimes at a premium in a state tournament. With that being the case on Thursday in the Century boys' team's state quarterfinal against Middleton, Nick Rodriguez's performance became critical.

Rodriguez buried a penalty kick in the second half to give the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead, and that goal proved to be the only one scored in Century's victory. For providing the difference in his team's advancement to the state semifinals, Rodriguez is the Idaho State Journal's Athlete of the Week.

Rodriguez and the Diamondbacks played Bonneville on Friday for the right to advance to the state championship game. Unfortunately for Century, Bonneville came out on top 2-1 in double-overtime.

The Diamondbakcs will play Hillcrest in the third-place game at 11:45 a.m. today at Brothers Park in Caldwell.
