Idaho State freshman Maria Sanchez made her World Cup debut Tuesday in Moncton, New Brunswick.

But she never played as Mexico and Colombia finished in a 1-1 draw. Mexico made one substitution the entire 90 minutes.

Veronica Perez put Mexico up 1-0 in the 35th minute, turning after a corner kick and firing a right-footed shot that Colombian goalkeeper Castano Cardoso Derly Stefany was unable to keep from crossing the line.

Yoreli Rincon nearly equalized for Colombia in the 59th minute, but her free kick over outstretched Mexican goalkeeper Cecelia Santiago hit the post. Colombia’s Daniela Montoya, however, tied the game in the final 10 minutes.

In the 82nd minute, Montoya blasted a shot from outside the penalty area to knot the score at 1-1. Mexico appeared to knock in the game-winning goal in extra time, but it was waived off after a foul call from the center referee.

The late draw keeps both countries in search of their first victories in the tournament.

And Sanchez is left waiting for her official on-the-field introduction in the World Cup.
