GRACE - Valley outmuscled Grace during a 52-6 win on Friday.

The Grizzlies couldn't generate anything offensively until they scored on the game's final play.

"We started off playing really good defense, but we had five or six three-and-outs in the first half," Grace coach Steve Millward said. "We never got anything going offensively."

No statistics from the game were available.

The Grizzlies (1-4) will host West Side next week for homecoming.

Granger (Utah) 27, Snake River 24

MORELAND - The Snake River football team played right with a 5A squad from Utah but came up just short on Firday.

Granger beat the 3A Panthers 27-24.

"I was really pleased with our team," Snake River coach Jeff Dalley said. "Our guys never gave up. They played their hearts out."

The Panthers took a 24-21 lead into the fourth quarter after a touchdown runs by Emmitt Smith and C.J. Toulouse in the third quarter. The Lancers answered with a score of their own in the fourth, though, and a potential game-tying long Snake River field goal at the end was no good.

"They're a big team," Dalley said. "They were physical."

Smith led the Panthers with 54 yards on eight carries, while Jacob Reese added 53 yards on 13 carries and T.J. Matthews chipped in 52 yards on 11 carries.

Snake River (3-2) will open 3A Fifth District play next week by hosting Bear Lake.

West Side 44, Bear Lake 0

DAYTON - West Side blasted Bear Lake with a barrage of scores in the first half on its way to a 44-0 home win over its 3A opponent Friday.

The Pirates scored five of their six touchdowns in the first half and led 36-0 at intermission. West Side did most of its damage on the gorund, rushing for 224 yards and four scores. Mitch Bowles led the team with 71 yards, while Justin Daley had a team-high two rushing touchdowns.

"We wanted our kids to keep playing hard, and I think we did that, especially defensively. They really kept playing pretty tough," West Side head coach Tyler Moser told the (Logan, Utah) Herald Journal. "We talked to our kids at the half about (not) letting up. When you let up, you get injured. … We told our kids not to let up and to keep playing hard."

West Side quarterback Dallas Turnbow kept the Bear Lake defense honest by throwing two touchdown passes to Tyler White.

Bear Lake committed five turnovers and had just three first downs, compared to West Side's 21. The Bears fell to 1-4.

"We were able to establish the line of scrimmage and move the ball," Moser said. "Bear Lake's struggling. They've got a lot of injuries this year. … Hats off them for still playing tough and still putting kids on the field that were aggressive and wanted to play."

The Pirates improved to 4-2.
