    The American Falls boys basketball team opened the season with 38-31 win over Malad Wednesday.

    The Beavers scored 26 second half points to overcome a slow start.

    “This was a good win,” American Falls coach said. “We came out agressive in the second half and got a big game from Tony Hall with 11 points eight rebounds and five blocks.”

    The Beavers are breaking in an new team this year as all but two players are got their first expierence of varsity basketball.

    American Falls plays at Kimberly Friday.

North Gem 58, Grace 39

North Gem — Lloyd 6, Wakley 2, McClain 26, Wadsworth 1, Hall 8, Vanvelt 11, Holbrooke 2, Simons 2.

    Tyler McClain scored a game-high 26 points including 7-for-9 from the three point line to give North Gem a 58-39 win over rival Grace.

    McClain scored 14 of the teams 20 second quarter points with many of his opportunities coming off of turnovers forced by the defense.

    North Gem plays at North Fremont today.

Bear Lake 60, West Side 29

Bear Lake — Pitchford 8, Wallentine 20, D. Petersen 15, Gunderson 2, Phillips 3, Michael 4, Paulson 8.

    Porter Wallentine scored 20 points to lead Bear Lake to a season opening win over West Side.

    “It was a good game,” Bear Lake head coach said. “We always have a pretty good battle with West Side.

    The Bears tookm control of the game in the second half holding the Pirates ti just 12 points.

    Bear Lake hosts Star Valley (WY) on Friday. While West Side plays at Preston on Friday.

Madison 50, Highland 49

    The Highland boys basketball team could not hold a one point lead with 12 seconds remaining in the game falling to Madison 50-49 Wednesday.

    The Rams had difficlulty from the free throw line converting just 18-of-34 attempts.

    “We did not shoot free throws well,” Highland head coach Chris Frost said. “And we had a bad first half offensively.”

    Clark Wilkinson led the Rams with 10 points.

    Highland plays at Bonneville on Friday.

Hillcrest 52, Century 43

    A two point second quarter was to much to overcome as Hillcrest beat Century 52-43 Wednesday.

    The Diamondbacks managed just 11 first half points and tried to rally in the second half but the deficit proved to be to much.

    “There was a lot of bad basketball in the second quarter,” Century head coach Cody Shelley said. “We did not have the energy we had at home Tuesday night.”

    The Diamondbacks (0-2) play Tuesday at Burley.
